Five District Titles and Three School Records Lead Track to Regionals

TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa Prep Track & Field made a historic mark Thursday, April 23, at the District 9-1A Championship Meet, capturing five individual titles and resetting three school records as a group of Terrapin athletes advanced to the Regional Meet.

Individual district titles were earned by Sky Gilyard in the long jump (4.88m) and 100m hurdles (16.78), Cai Culpepper in the 400m (55.26) and 200m (24.94), and Jacob Burke in the 200m (22.52).

The meet featured three record-breaking performances, including two benchmarks that had stood for nearly thirty years. Jacob Burke set a new school record in the 200m with a time of 22.52, surpassing Keith Bailey's 1998 mark of 22.73. Madison Burke broke the 1996 shot put record held by Regina Graham with a throw of 9.95m (32' 7¾"), and the Boys' 4x100m Relay team (Andrew Kunkel, Jacob Ellison, Jordan Clark, Jacob Burke) lowered their own school record to 44.08. To date, the program has established eight school records during the 2026 season.

Also qualifying for the next round were Madison Burke (2nd in shot put), the Boys' 4x100m Relay (2nd), Alivia Frazier (2nd in 400m and 200m), Jordan Clark (2nd in 400m), and Corrie Culpepper (4th in 200m).

The top four placing individuals or relay teams from the District Meet advanced to the Region 3-1A Meet, scheduled for Friday, May 1, at King High School.

Congratulations to our District Champions and all athletes moving on to Regionals!
