Doug Smith

In college, Coach Smith played on teams that were consistently ranked in the top 20 Division I teams in the country. In 1995, Smith captained the University of Maryland and helped lead the (Maryland) Terrapins to the NCAA “sweet-sixteen.” After college, Smith played four seasons of professional soccer in the National Professional Soccer League (Miami, FL) and the Continental Indoor Soccer League (Washington, D.C.). Since Smith has been with the soccer program at Tampa Prep, the team has won five state championships. Smith has been named the Florida Dairy Farmers Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2013, the Tampa Tribune’s Coach of the Year in 2010, 2012, and 2013, and the Tampa Bay Times’ Coach of the Year in 2012 and 2013. In 2013, Smith was also named the NSCAA’s (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Florida Coach of the Year. With multiple connections at next level, Coach Smith has also helped develop multiple players for collegiate competition.
